Where there is will there is way.

Groups of people- all self organized- with no hierarchy- only ad hoc project coordinators- are doing good work helping those who need help.

They gather from supermarkets unsold food products, near their date of expiry and distribute them to the needy. They gather unsold fresh fruits and vegetables from street markets which their vendors are about to throw to the garbage, they sort them keep what is suitable for consumption, apportion it and distribute it to the needy.

Others gather from fast food chains unsold sandwiches and other edibles (cheese pies and such) freeze them and together with other edibles (like unsold bread from bakeries) they distribute them to the needy. Others collect from food producers, like aqua-culture companies, what they can use to prepare meals which they offer to needy people, like illegal immigrants.

Such is the contribution of some Greeks to their fellow humans. It is meaningful and useful to the beneficiaries of this Good Will. Compare this to a music concert, or other attention seeking activities which the so called “friends” of illegal immigrants like to organize … to express support for the immigrants and attract attention to themselves.

What these people do is Volunteer work to clean, to repair, to spruce up, to plant, to tend. They do the work municipalities and other entities that should (but) do not do. They contribute in meaningful ways to society, un-helped from the Government and the local authorities.

What is the Political Party that calls itself ECOLOGISTS- GREENS doing to help these well meaning Greeks ?

It reminded the Greeks of its existence recently with a spoof aimed at the vice-president of the Government, Mr Pangalos, for his , now famous quote : we ate it together ( colloquial Greek for we consumed it all together) : in reference to the National debt which is now burdening the country. In the last analysis what is in this statement that is not true ? but Greeks are loath to accept inconvenient truths. What have the “ Greens” done to help the country? Have they started campaigning for the reforestation of the country? It took a Radio&TV network to organize such activity and to also organize voluntary help to citizens from citizens willing to offer gratis professional service, or help in other ways.

There is no dearth of Good Will in Greece, but the Government does not realize it. The Government should organize a movement of Volunteer-ism to help the country in more than one ways. The Good Will displayed by citizen groups is “capital” which the country could use to help itself. If only the Government would act.
