TIME Magazine recently had a feature article on the subject. A brilliant scientist, Raymond Kurzweil, believes that by the year 2045 Computers will become more intelligent than Humans. When that happens our bodies, our minds, our civilization, will be completely and irreversibly transformed.

The accelerating speed of progress, getting faster by the day has brought about exponential growth in computing power which is progressing more each hour than it did in the entire period of its first ninety years.

The day when Computers become more intelligent than Humans is not far. At that point of time Computers will assume their own development, having become more intelligent than Humans. A Computer Scientist will be a SUPER INTELLIGENT COMPUTER. How will these “creatures” behave?

Artificial Intelligence beyond Human Intelligence may be a blessing. IMMORTALITY may become possible, retardation of old age and prolongation of life span a certainty. Maybe Human Consciousness can be merged into Computers. Maybe Computers turn against humanity and extinguish it. That Computers will profoundly alter Human nature is a fact. Human capabilities will be vastly extended. The Human species will be transformed. S I N G U L A R I T Y is the name of this Transformation. No, it is not Science Fiction. The word singularity comes from astrophysics in a situation where the rules of ordinary physics do not apply.

In the mid-2020s the Human Brain will be s u c c e s f u l l y reverse-engineered.

Computers will be perfectly capable to match Human Intelligence, by the end of that decade.

By 2045, Computer Power and the unthinkable (by today’s standards) reduction of its costs, the QUANTITY of ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE that will be created will be close to a BILLION TIMES the sum of ALL the Human Intelligence presently in existence. SINGULARITY will then be a fact. The ever faster progress of genetics and nanotechnology will contribute to this. Psychologists ,Neuroscientists, Nanotechnologists, Molecular biologists, specialists in Wearable Computers, Medical doctors, are among those who share the notion of Singularity with Raymond Kurzweil. To them Biological boundaries, even death, are problems that can be solved. Already, researchers at Harvard Medical School have stopped age-related degeneration of mice and the mice got younger ! !

Biotechnology and Nanotechnology will enable Humans to manipulate the Human Body at the molecular level. The Human Genome can be rewritten, it’s a code. Indefinite life extension can become a reality. Dead people can be brought back to life. Within a few centuries Human Intelligence will have re-engineered and saturated all the matter in the Universe. What renders credence to such beliefs is the EXPONENTIAL growth of Computer power.
